OUR NEXT EVENT TO BE ANNOUNCED! All ages welcome | Activities, tours, crafts, refreshments!
Our THIRD FAMILY INTERGENERATIONAL DISCOVERY DAY was Saturday, October 14th
Our third of a series of Family Intergenerational Discovery Days brought to you by Pinellas Community Foundation and Faith Mission Grant was Saturday, October 14 from 11 to 2. Enjoy the photos below of that day, which was our Founders Day 40th Birthday Celebration of the creation of the Palm Harbor Historical Society in 1983!
Imagine ... that 41 years ago in 1983, you found some interesting and important historical items concerning the Palm Harbor area while going through family papers and/or collections. You wanted to make sure they were preserved. What would you have done? There was no repository for such items at that time. This was a real scenario—and from it, the Palm Harbor Historical Society (PHHS) was formed 40 years ago. On October 14th, we will celebrate the PHHS’s 40th Birthday at our 3rd Family Intergenerational Discovery Day from 11 AM to 2 PM. Join us as we celebrate and honor our heritage while also looking forward to continue preserving Palm Harbor’s precious history.

Please come by and experience a new addition to our landscape, constructed in honor of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Palm Harbor Historical Society.
This structure is a Wind Phone inspired by the "Kaze No Denwa" (The Phone of the Wind) created by 72-year-old garden designer Itaru Sasaki in Japan. It has been built with love, In memory of all who contributed gifts of time, talent, and substance to improve our community life, particularly in preserving and celebrating cultural history at Palm Harbor Museum, and was dedicated at our Founder's Day 40th Birthday Celebration on October 14th.
Members of The Flingkei Book Club of Pinellas County — an expansion of a book club begun in Japan in 1962 — were honored to provide funding for this Wind Phone in tribute to their founder, Alden Matthews, and to recently deceased members Ben Griffith, Mary Griffith, Sallie Parks, and Judy McSwine.
The labor and design for our Wind Phone was donated by Aaron Fortner of Ozona, who created the Japanese torii gate for its entrance.

Tour our museum's indoor exhibits and walk through our Native Florida Landscape with its informational signage that conveys stories about our local history and explains how early humans and and subsequent settlers to North Pinellas grew and used these plants for food, resources, inspiration and beauty. Notice the variety of insect and small animal life thriving among our native gardens.
